Fridge Water Line & Ice Maker Installation
A fridge water line is a small piece of plumbing that causes a disproportionate amount of damage when it fails. The line runs from a supply under the sink or in the basement to the back of the fridge, usually through a cabinet or behind the wall. It sits under constant pressure, and most of it is hidden — so when it starts to leak, it usually leaks into a place you cannot see until the damage is already done. The setup also includes three parts that fail together: the shut-off valve that controls water to the fridge, the water hammer arrestor that absorbs the shock from the ice maker valve, and the ice maker box that connects the line into the wall. We check all three — the valve, the arrestor, and the box — because fixing one and ignoring the others usually means a second visit.

What we do
- Diagnose the leak or pressure issue
- Install new fridge water lines
- Replace shut-off valves
- Add or replace water hammer arrestors
- Add or replace ice maker boxes
- Connect the line to the fridge inlet

FAQ
My fridge water dispenser stopped working. Is it the fridge or the line?
Usually the line. If the dispenser runs but produces no water, the line is blocked, kinked, or the shut-off valve has been closed. If the dispenser makes noise but no water comes out, the line may be frozen or the inlet valve on the fridge may have failed. We check the line and the connection first, because that is where most of these problems start.
Why do I hear a banging noise when the ice maker fills?
That is water hammer. When the ice maker valve closes, it sends a shock wave back through the pipe. Over time, that shock loosens joints and wears out fixtures elsewhere in the house. A water hammer arrestor absorbs the shock. It is a small part and worth adding any time we are already working on the line.
Do I need an ice maker box?
If the fridge has an ice maker or water dispenser, yes. The box is the connection point in the wall or floor where the water line enters. Without it, the line runs loose through the wall, which is against code in most cases and makes future service difficult. If you are adding a fridge water line for the first time, the box is usually part of the job.
What material do you use for the fridge line and box?
We use the best material available on the market, sourced from well-known manufacturers with a strong reputation for reliability. The line and box are parts that sit under constant pressure and are usually hidden — the wrong material fails silently and causes expensive damage. We do not cut corners on them, and we do not use generic parts from unknown suppliers. If you want to know exactly which brand and specification we use for your setup, ask when you book and we will tell you before the job starts.
How long does the job take?
Replacing a shut-off valve or adding a water hammer arrestor is usually under an hour. Adding or replacing an ice maker box takes longer, because the box has to be set and sealed, and any piping work is quoted separately.
